The Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona was my turf. While I earned my Bachelor of Fine Art in photography, I could view the world’s best photographer’s work anytime I wished with white gloved hands. I fell in love with the way a gelatin silver print looked in the light, Edward Weston and the smell of developer. I lived through the lens, my hands immersed in chemistry, watching my images reveal themselves as I printed late into many a night. My parents gave me my first camera when I was 8. In Junior High, I stretched my legs using mom’s old Brownie camera and learned to print in the darkroom. In high school I grew as the only female photographer on the yearbook, and learned to shoot in a journalistic style, excelling at anything to do with photography. Along the way, working and studying with fine photographers helped me to see light, nuance, and moments. Today, in my digital darkroom, I still find myself intoxicated by the process—mixing the ingredients: light, subject, moment and voila! Magic!
